For keeping Shoos black— Take halph a pound of of bees wax & quarter of a pound of clarified sheep suet & ounce of lampe black one penny worth of gum aribeck put in the lamp black the fat & wax being melted let them boyle well to gather & when you take it of the fire put in the gumb which must first be desolved in warm water make it into bals & so reserve it for use— Probatum est a me: G: Spencer [strikeout] [struck: G Spencer] 1773
