Women continue to lead the way in advocating for women’s equality before the law and  continue to serve as role models for others. Emilie F. Miller, a state senator from Fairfax, Virginia (1988-1992) challenged the all-male admission policy of Virginia Military Institute (VMI). VMI would change its policy a few years later in 1996. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg (1993-2020) was famous for her advocacy as a lawyer and a Supreme Court Justice supporting women’s equality before the law. The 21^st Century saw the first woman serving as the Speaker of the House, the first woman to be nominated for US president by a major political party, and now the first woman to be elected Vice President. Whether the goal is as modest as the right to belong to an organization which was once reserved for men only, such as the United States Congress or a prestigious military school, or as consequential as the Equal Rights Amendment, there has been, and will always be individuals and groups working to increase awareness and level the playing field.
