Ratification of the 19th Amendment in August 1920 did not signal an end to the Women’s Movement, but rather a new beginning. The goal of equal treatment under the law still remained, and those who would follow the original leaders of the movement would continue their work to inform and energize later generations. The League of Women Voters (LWV) was founded by women’s suffrage leaders in February 1920, just six months before ratification. Today, through voter information and public programs, LWV actively promotes informed and active participation in government and understanding of major public policy issues.
