About the anthology
• This brief anthology was a commemorative volume for Lincoln University alumni and friends, as noted in a letter from Langston Hughes to "The Crisis" (12 Feb. 1930), soliciting permission to use any poems by Edward Silvera that might have appeared in the pages of the magazine:
"We have in preparation a small anthology of verse of Lincoln University poets which will not be for sale but for distribution among alumni and friends of Lincoln University, and should like to have your permission to use any of the poems of Edward Silvera which may have appeared in the pages of your magazine.
"Your early acknowledgment will be appreciated."
