Camp Polk, Louisiana
In May of 1944 Jerome Epstein, Jr. arrived at Camp Polk, Louisiana where he was assigned to the 68th Signal Battalion as a radio operator. Epstein would remain at Camp Polk through the end of 1944, devoting the majority of his time to radio operator training (mainly focused on increasing his words per minute), the work details that were a central part of Army life, and the inevitable and constant rumors of overseas deployments.
